See Us For An Ultrasound Referral

Although you would think a positive pregnancy test is enough information, you need more. A positive test result is only an indication of pregnancy. You need an ultrasound scan to confirm your pregnancy is viable.

What Is A Viable Pregnancy?

Viability means the pregnancy is growing with a detectable heartbeat. If ultrasound doesn’t detect the pregnancy, it could be because it’s too early or the pregnancy has ended in a miscarriage.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) estimates as many as 26% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage. You can still get a positive pregnancy test result days or weeks after a miscarriage depending on how far along you are.

Why Do I Need An Ultrasound?

An ultrasound answers the following three essential questions:

  1. Is my pregnancy viable?
  2. How far along am I?
  3. Where is my pregnancy located?

If you are considering abortion for your unexpected pregnancy, you need more answers. You must consult a healthcare provider, not an abortion provider if your pregnancy isn’t viable and you have had a miscarriage.

Abortion procedures are determined by how far along you are in your pregnancy which ultrasound can determine. The correct location for pregnancy is in the uterus, but some pregnancies form outside the uterus. These are referred to as “ectopic.” An ectopic pregnancy can be very dangerous, even life-threatening.
